Αυθόρμητη Τάξη

economic social theory
Read more...

Isolated Mikrotik Ap

mikrotik wifi access point it configuration guide tutorial technical router
Assuming a wireless interface is setup and working on the router, we can add a virtual interface, give it it’s own subnet, and isolate that subnet from the existing LAN. Note: these routers don’t seem to like multi-tasking/wi-fi too much Using WinBox, login and click the wireless tab on the left. Click the Security Profiles tab, create a new profile for your virtual AP – I basically copied my existing profile. Read more...

The Platonic Solids

The Particle: Platonic solids The Particle - The wrong turn that led physics to a dead end © Engineer Xavier Borg - Blaze Labs Platonic Solids & States of matter What's so important about them? Plato's Timaeus conjectures on the composition of the four elements which the ancient Greeks thought made up the universe: earth, water, air, and fire. Plato conjectured each of these elements to be made up of a certain Platonic solid: the element of earth would be a cube, of air an octahedron, of water an icosahedron, and of fire a tetrahedron. OpePGP in Rust: the Sequoia project

LWN.net needs you! Without subscribers, LWN would simply not exist. Please consider signing up for a subscription and helping to keep LWN publishing In 2018, three former GnuPG developers began work on Sequoia, a new implementation of OpenPGP in Rust. OpenPGP is an open standard for data encryption, often used for secure email; GnuPG is an implementation of that standard. The GPLv2-licensed Sequoia is heading toward version 1.0, with a handful of issues remaining to be addressed. Read more...

A Fast Fuzzy Search Implementation

swift programming algorithm
In recent episodes of Swift Talk, we’ve been building a fast fuzzy search implementation. Fuzzy search is typically used to search a large list of file names by typing a few relevant characters (like Open Quickly in Xcode). For example, to find a file named Sources/Slides/ContentView.swift, you might type SSCV. The simplest version of a fuzzy search algorithm could be implemented using a regular expression: for the search string SSCV, the regular expression would be something like *S*S*C*V*. Read more...

How «woke» activism took over universities and descended into street riots

activism woke black racism trans rights
Heather Heying, zvg. Lesen Sie die deutsche Version hier. George Floyd died under the knee of a police officer in Minneapolis in the end of May, and people spilled on to the streets of American cities, outraged at police brutality and racial bias and exhausted by Covid-19 lockdowns. In Portland, Oregon, where I live, those protests turned into riots nearly every single night last Summer. The homicide rate climbed to the highest it’s been in 30 years. Read more...

Understand Wifi 4/5/6/6E (802.11 n/ac/ax)

wifi guide router technical
Wifi speeds vs. broadband speeds: Wifi speeds have not kept up with increasing Internet speeds. As a result, there has been a very rapid switch in wifi from Wi-Fi 4 (2.4 GHz 802.11n) to Wi-Fi 5 (5 GHz 802.11ac), and now to Wi-Fi 6 (6 GHz 802.11ax), in an attempt to keep up. So what new router/AP should you consider buying today? Router Manufacturers' Marketing Hype: Don't be fooled by the marketing hype of router manufacturers' advertising outrageously high aggregate (all bands added together) Gbps wireless speeds (like 7. IBM completes successful field trials on Fully Homomorphic Encryption

encryption IBM homomorphic security data cryptography
We're already accustomed to data being encrypted while at rest or in flight—FHE offers the possibility of doing computations on it as well, without ever actually decrypting it.IBMYesterday, Ars spoke with IBM Senior Research Scientist Flavio Bergamaschi about the company's recent successful field trials of Fully Homomorphic Encryption. We suspect many of you will have the same questions that we did—beginning with "what is Fully Homomorphic Encryption?" FHE is a type of encryption that allows direct mathematical operations on the encrypted data. Read more...

Invisible Manipulators of Your Mind

Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman, Stanford, California, 1970sThe behavioral techniques that are being employed by governments and private corporations do not appeal to our reason. The term “propaganda” has been replaced by “a behavioral approach to persuasive communication with quantifiable results.” One We are living in an age in which the behavioral sciences have become inescapable. The findings of social psychology and behavioral economics are being employed to determine the news we read, the products we buy, the cultural and intellectual spheres we inhabit, and the human networks, online and in real life, of which we are a part. How to mark all emails as read in mutt

mutt email technical how-to guide
Here’s a simple macro to mark all new emails (messages) as read in Mutt. If you want to use it, just add it to your Mutt configuration file (e.g. ~/.muttrc). macro index A \ "<tag-pattern>~N<enter><tag-prefix><clear-flag>N<untag-pattern>.<enter>" \ "mark all new as read" (You could remove the two backslashes and have the macro on a single line, but I split it up for legibility’s sake.) Let’s parse this bit by bit. Read more...
